The Founder

A botanical curiosity and a passion for the marine world led Gilles GUTIERREZ, Doctor of Pharmacy, to create ICP, Institute of Cellular Pharmacology Ltd, following the discovery of a brown calciotropic algae, Padina pavonica on the Maltese coast, marking the beginning of the adventure for ICP. As a tribute to this Franco-Maltese alliance between TEXINFINE and ICP, Maltanedienol is the name of the first molecule extracted from the Padina pavonica algae.

"Gilles GUTIERREZ, as an excellent botanist, could have realized any number of crazy projects like cloning a variety of climbing plant and make it able to bring the mail each morning! Well no ! He will build a "pair of lenses" in order to have a global vision of the therapeutic potential of nature. Nature in all its dimensions: Animal, Plant, Mineral for the purpose of reproducing its inventions. "

These were the words of Prof. Jean-Alexis GRIMAUD, former Director of the Institut Pasteur and Professor at the Faculty of Medicine Paris VI, during the awarding of the Institut Pasteur medal to Gilles GUTIERREZ, in October 2009. This distinction represents not only the recognition of his peers, but also, the testimony of his scientific action, especially for his work on the phylogenetic transcompatibility of BIOMIMETIC REGULATORS^® and his discoveries concerning bioregulation by means of phonons: signals emitted by certain gems.

A proponent of biodiversity and a biologist, heir to the Pasteur tradition, he is the inventor of ingenious transfers of pharmacological agents from the plant kingdom to humans, and many patented inventions whose applications in biotechnology have given him many possibilities of public and private partnerships.

From the faculty of pharmacy to cell biology, the path taken by Gilles GUTIERREZ is above all the result of his passion for the Living which enabled him to overcome disciplinary barriers, and to escape the reductionist drift of his classmates. His vision of research is not only an invitation to perpetual scientific reflection, but above all it is an existential adventure towards a global vision of life. Abolish the boundaries between the Living and the Mineral, the academic knowledge and the fascination of the new, the biologist and the philosopher ... that is his challenge!
