The morphological characteristic of the brown algae Padina pavonica (class Phaeophyceae) called brown algae with white cones or Peacock algae is the presence of thalli (fronds or parasols) bleached by limestone forming concentric circles of sizes ranging between 5 and 10 cm.

The preservation of the microarchitecture of the extracellular matrix is a fundamental step in the biomineralization process. In our in vitro studies, the total extract of Padina pavonica induces an increase in calcium fixation by osteoblasts, even in degenerative conditions.

In addition, our work has demonstrated that the total extract of Padina pavonica allows a constant balance of the c-Jun / c-Fos transcription factors to be maintained for optimal expression of the cell phenotype, even in the presence of pro-active agents. inflammatory drugs such as interleukin I.
